Everest Base Camp Trek a Journey of a Lifetime

 

Everest Base Camp Trek is also popularly known as EBC Trek in its abbreviated form. This trekking trial has been conquered since 1953 with the first ascent of Mount Everest by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa. The modern Trekking trial is accessible to Tea house based lodges so this trekking trial can be done easily with tea house based accommodation. Everest Base camp trek is the probably the most challenging trekking trial over all other trekking trials in Nepal. Everest Base Camp trek starts with a 30 minutes flight to Lukla from Kathmandu. The classical Everest Base camp trek used to start from Jiri. Four mountains above 8000 meters high namely, Mount Everest (8848m), Mount Cho Oyu (8201m), Mount Lhotse (8516m) and Mount Makalu (8481m) spectacularly shines at the Northern side of Nepal. Moreover, Everest Base Camp Trek offers spectacular views of Ama Dablam (6856m), Cholatse Peak 6440m), Lobuche Peak (6119m), Nuptse (7873m), Mount pumori (7145m), Khumbutse (6640m), etc. In addition to the trekking adventure you will be able to able to explore the Himalayan life style and their unchanged culture from the beginning of the settlement. Yaks are found abundantly and most of the people herds Yak and depend on them for Trade, meat, cheese and their skin. Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival

You will be picked up from the Airport by the staff of Plan Nepal and driven to the hotel. After the check-in procedure of the hotel, you will be briefed about your trekking plans.  

Day 02: Flight to Lukla and hike up to Phakding

The trip will start with the flight from Kathmandu airport to Lukla. The flight reveals stunning view of Himalayan range bordering Nepal and Tibet. The duration of flight is approximately 40 minutes. Lukla is located at an elevation of 2,850m. The name ‘Lukla’ literally means “place of sheep.” Lukla Airport is one of the Airports situated at the high altitudes. From Lukla, you start trekking to the village of Choblung in the Dudh Koshi Valley which is rich in beautiful pine and rhododendron forests. The trial is easy as you follow the river’s course, passing through the village of Ghat. The first day’s stop will be at Phakding village. The total duration of the hike will be 4 hours.

Day 03: Trek to Namche (3440m)

After your breakfast, the journey to Namche starts. The trial encompasses short ups and downs. After crossing Dudh Koshi from the village of Benkar, stunning view of Thermserku peak can be captured (6,608 m). Crossing the long suspension bridge over the Bhote Koshi River, we reach Monjo, situated below peak of Thermserku. At the entrance to Sagarmatha National Park, you will need to produce your trekking permit. The walk to Namche Bazaar from Jorsalle village is an uphill path, where a magnificent view of Kwangde Peak with its surrounding peaks and Kusum Kangru can be captured. As you ascend higher, you can have the panoramic view of Nuptse, Lhotse, and Taweche Peak. The final destination will be at Namche Bazaar (Bazaar means market place in Nepalese term) which is full of eye dazzling colorful houses. The duration of the trek is 05 hours.

Day 04: Acclimatization day in Namche

Acclimatization is very important while doing a high altitude trekking. This time will provide someone enough time to adapt themselves to the high altitude. You can make a short walk uphill to the Sagarmatha National Park Headquarter, which is a spectacular place perched on top of Namche Bazaar, with breathtaking views of the surrounding snow capped giants and the deep valleys way down below. There is also a museum providing with various information on the history of the Himalayas, the geographical information of the area, cultural practices, mountaineering history, and flora and fauna of the region.

Day 05: Trek to Tengboche (3860m)

After a 20 minutes climb to the top ridge of Namche Bazaar, the trial follows few short up and downs with magnificent view of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Thermserku and Kwangde-Ri peak. After a pleasant walk of two hours the trial descend to Imjatse river at Phungitenga (3,250m), a small settlement with couple of teahouses in the midst of the alpine woods of mostly silver fir, blue pines, rhododendron and some few magnolia and birch trees. After Phungitenga the walk is strenuous for an hour all the way to Tengboche. Tengboche is famous for the big Monastery or Gompa (a Nepalese term for Monastery) also known as Tengboche Monastery. As you ascend further, you will encounter the large field with campsites and teahouses, lodges beneath the towering peak Ama Dablam in the north with Mt. Lhotse and Lhotse Shar towards north east. Tengboche is located at an altitude of 3860 meters. The total duration to reach the destination is 05 hours.

Day 06: Tengboche to Dingboche (4350m)

After leaving Tengboche we will choose the upper trial for the better views when we head towards Pangboche village. The trial will encompass many Chortens, Mani wall and many tea shops. You will have the opportunity to capture the amazing view of Mount Amadablam. The walk is fairly gentle walk until we reach the Lobuche River and from there the steep climb all the way to the Dingboche village. The Majestic view of Amadablam to the South is supported by other mountain views of Mount Lhotse, Mount Makalu and Mount Cho Oyu. Other views of surrounding peaks also look spectacular where the most dominant is Lobuche West and Lobuche East. The Yak pastures and the farming land looks stunning with the stone border.

Day 07: Rest day in Dingboche (4350m)

The second acclimatization day in the Everest region is at Dingboche and it is also a good time to rest your body. You can explore around Dingboche and discover its unique culture and traditions. You can also pay a visit to Chhukung Ri (Ri means peak).

Day 08: Trek to Lobuche (4930m)

The total duration of journey from Dingboche to Lobuche is approximately 05 hours. The trial encompasses the steep uphill pathway through the Khumbu glacier and then descends swiftly. At this very route you can capture the stunning views of Khumbutse peak, Lingtren peak, Mount Pumori and Mahalangur Himal. After we cross the Khumbu glacier, you can capture the Majestic view of Mount Nuptse towering on the upper right. You can clearly feel the high altitude as you progress forward.

Day 09: Trek to Gorak-shep (5160m) - Everest Base Camp Visit (5400m)

The journey to the base of the world’s highest mountain, “Mount Everest” will be done on this particular day. The trial from Lobuche will pass through Khumbu glacier and we will have spectacular views of mountains like mount Pumori, Mount Mahalangur, Mount Lingten, Mount Khumbutse and Mount Nuptse. Thangma Riju provides 360 degree view all Himalayan snow peaks. We ascent further to finally reach Gorak-shep from where we can find the stunning views of mountains and peaks looming all around including Mount Everest. Then we head ahead for the Everest Base Camp to have close range view of Mount Everest.

Day 10: Trek to Pheriche (4240m)

The final day of the journey for Everest will be the longest duration of walking. The journey will approximately take 08 hours. The journey will include to the steep and long ascent to Kalapaththar which provides the spectacular views of Mount Everest and its surrounding peaks. The journey is started early in the morning and the ascent is made up to the top of Kalapaththar and then return back to Gorak-shep. Finally from Gorak-shep we will retrace back our pathway to Pheriche. From Gorak-shep the journey down to Pheriche is only 04 hours.

Day 11: Trek to Tengboche (3867m)

We will retrace our pathway to Tengboche with most of descending pathway and the journey should approximately take us 05 hours.

Day 12: Trek to Namche (3440m)

As descending pathway is easier than to ascend uphill pathway and therefore we will quickly descend down to Namche Bazaar. We will drastically climb down an altitude of 400 meters approximately and the total time taken will be 06 hours.

Day 13: Trek to Lukla (2840m)

From Namche we will increase our pace and reach Lukla. Then total duration of walk should be no longer than 06 hours. At Lukla you can have a celebration with whole crew member.

Day 14: Flight to Kathmandu and drive back to hotel

We will have a scenic flight back to Kathmandu and the total flight time will be approximately 40 minutes. Our staff will pick you up and transfer you to hotel.

Day 15: Departure

You will be dropped in the airport for the final departure.
